The board also voted 4-1 to name Assistant Director Mark Thorell interim director of the department while a search for Clarkeson’s replacement moves forward.

The meetings in question were convened to discuss details relating to the recreation department’s oversight of the annual Independence Day road race.

During her 60 years in Hingham, she was also active in the Hingham League of Women Voters, the Hingham Cemetery Committee, the Selection Committee of South Shore Habitat for Humanity and the library volunteers.
