With work to Community Rowing’s new $15.6 million boathouse wrapping up this month, the nonprofit hopes more local residents will consider taking up rowing.

“It’s not a sport for an elite institution, it’s a sport for everyone,” Executive Director Bruce Smith said, noting rowing is relatively inexpensive compared with sports such as golf.

    On Sept. 25, Community Rowing dedicated a new dock that will allow people with disabilities to have easier access to boats on the Charles River.

    The dock, one of three installed in front of the new Harry Parker Boathouse, was funded with a $100,000 grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.
